Helen is now available for workshop and class bookings for 2010 please email for costing details and availability. Both Gathering/retreat and technique, skills classes are available.

Dancing Daisies -

full day class - 6 hrs

one day class utilising the basic Colourque method. Students bring their own fabrics and pencils and choose their own colour scheme as we work our way step by step through the colouring and sealing process. We then proceed to hand stitching the outlines and making up the wallhanging panel. Students would expect to have their colouring finished and sealed in one day with the stitching begun. Pattern and class notes provided. (small kit fee)

Fun with Inktense

full day class - 6 hours

Inktense pencils are a different type of pencil which give a very bright intense result. They behave very differently to normal pencils and are used differently in our Colourque technique. This class allows students to investigate their freedom and design and freehand draw a continuous line suitable for free machine outline quilting and then colouring with inktense. Students bring their own materials and inktense pencils and this class and must know their sewing machine well with some free machine quilting experience or the will to have a go. A fun liberating class that does not require (nor tolerate) perfection.

‘Blessed Beauty

Full day class – 6 hours

This class will take you step by step through the exciting and fun Colourque® technique. (Coloured appliqué) Complete a project similar to those included in the ‘Faux Appliqué’ book  hands on with the author and creator of this simple but effective colouring method. Use the method to add colour and WOW to your own award winning quilts of the future….

The award winning quilt ‘Blessed Baltimore’ shows how simple it is to achieve a stunning Baltimore appliqué look with simple coloured pencils on fabric. This version of Colourqué involves hand outline stitching but can be transformed into free machine embroidery or quilting if desired. (Enjoyable hand stitching will be done by all in class however)

Everyone coloured in at kindergarten, so anyone can achieve in this fun, no stress class!

Students will purchase a kit containing all materials (not including patchwork fabrics - background only) required to complete the sample as per above.

‘Mini Lace’

Half day class – 4 hrs

Colour and create your very own ‘Lace’ wholecloth quilt in a day. Using a pre – quilted mini quilt you will learn the colouring technique as used in the award winning quilt Lace#2. Students will purchase a quilt containing the preprinted panel and all pencils and materials as used in the above sample.

Using a variation of Helens’ Colourqué® method you will learn about colouring, blending, sealing and finishing a personal version of a mini wholecloth quilt.

You can then use the method to create your very own masterpiece using coloured pencils, your design and quilting skills.

class project will be a mini Lace design similar to portions of the above quilt.

‘Very own Virtuoso’

1 full day workshop – 6 hrs

Use elements taken from architecture, art and design, drawings and surroundings to design your very own wholecloth quilt.

Use pencils to Colourqué® your design and then free machine quilt your design into a finished work of art.

Learn a variation on Helen’s Colourque® technique as seen in the award winning ‘Victorian Virtuoso’ quilt. Extend your design skills to create your very own original design or use Helen’s ‘element’ package to flip, mirror, turn, copy and create stunning designs. See how your environment and surroundings can be used to inspire or provide designs useable for quilting and colouring. No artistic experience necessary as we are using the skills of our historical forebears.

Design process and colouring will be covered and partially completed in class. Machine quilting outlines and background will be discussed but not completed during class times. All design work will be done by hand without computers or electronic assistance. A quilt of approx 20” will be designed as a class piece to cover all aspects of the class.

Optional day two VV

Full day – 6 hrs

Today we will begin to outline stitch and quilt your entire design. You will free machine outline the coloured and sealed design in a matching colour. Learn about basting and layering, starts and ends, burying threads, background quilting, batting and trapunto looks, binding and labelling your quilt.

Continuing from day 1 we will now start you on your way to completing your top into a finished quilt. You will require your own sewing machine in good working order with great personal knowledge of your machine. Helen will not be spending time on machine know how or problem solving to be fair to all students. This is not part of the class.

Quilt top will be layered and basted by hand. It will then be outline quilted by machine, then background quilted.

Other topics covered will be blocking and binding, labels, burying threads and additional adornments such as hot fix crystals or beading.

Gatherings

Very popular today are the retreats and gatherings scattered around the country. These provide more relaxed settings and friendly sharing, caring atmospheres for women to enjoy their passion. Offering several tutors each giving of their experience, inspiration, skills and designs they are Helen's favourite workshop settings. Everyone is usually so nice, relaxed and openly sharing of themselves, and their stitching enthusiasm. They are places to make lifelong friends and networks to build bigger and better things...

Cost includes: 1-2 projects specifically designed for gatherings, (may be designed exclusively dependant on time and schedule), assistance with kitting ideas, master patterns provided for copying for inclusion in every participants workshop bag, donation for door prize or lucky ticket or raffle.  Full day of attendance.
