Colourqué™ pronounced 'Kulla-kay' What is it? Colouring to give an appliqué effect Colourqué is a technique tested and developed over time by myself to add colour to your stitcheries and quilts giving them dimension and interest. I began by using paint to add colour but students really felt they needed to be an artist to paint - but.... everyone coloured in at Kindergarten so I turned to pencils and began playing. Now it is nothing particularly scientific. You can use any colour pencils but some are nicer to work with than others. In its basic form you do simply that - colour your stitchery design onto the fabric. The full instructions for this are in every pattern or book which uses the colouring. There are lots of hints and tips I have learnt and share with you to get a fun experience and achieve wonderful but easy results. You don't need any expensive hard to find materials or supplies, just a relaxed frame of mind and a willingness to have a go and have fun.. Over the past 12 months I have been experimenting and extending the technique to be used in different styles, formats, order, type of mediums used etc in preparation for a comprehensive book on the technique. This is still a little way away but watch this space as it will be very inspiring but simple to follow and you too can create anything from teacher presents with your children to masterpieces. I have been teaching workshops on the Colourqué technique for several years and have supplied these kits to your local patchwork stores so that you may all join in the fun. Ask at your local if they have them or if they'd like to try a class for you. Its a great fun have a go class for all ages.
